My Dad makes fun of my friends and I really don't know why. I love my Dad and he seems to like most of my friends but he's always making fun of my one best friend saying how she's fat, and I think it seems pretty mean. He seems to think it's funny.
He probably isn't trying to be mean or anything, most Dads do the same thing. If you don't like it, just tell him that you think he should leave off the fat jokes, or something. He probably doesn't even know that you have a problem with what he's saying.
yeah my dad makes fun of my friends, but in a jokey way, he doesnt actually say rude or offensive things about them. i think calling your friend fat is a bit harsh
My dad calls my best friend dumb all the time.
She kind of is, but she, and the rest of the family, just laughs about it.
It's how we show affection, really.
If we didn't like you, we would tell you, not make a joke of it.
Laughter should be reserved for people you love. :]

I don't think calling her fat is making fun of her. It's just mean. Making fun of them is including them in a joke where you know they can take the joke. A girl at school introduced me to her dad and, on the spot, he tells me that an old man once told him his daughter would bring home a boy named [insert my name]. That he would look like me and that he would want to sleep with his daughter. The old man said he was supposed to position his hands around my throat and ask me very calmly if I wanted to sleep with his daughter.
I wish I'd have worked out he was messing with me and had some kind of comeback, but instead I just froze and he started laughing at me. I think that kind of thing is acceptable and I'd love to have a daughter so that I could start planning what I'm going to do to boys she brings home. I don't think calling her friends fat is going to be one of the things I do, though.
