Is it normal for my dad to be in a white supremacist movement?
yeah he's fucking racist as hell! I found out the other day he was keeping it a secret for 15 years.

I actually agree with this.
I don't understand why this post is so "un-normal"
It's very normal to be racist, there are millions of people who are. Just because it's socially wrong to judge someone because of their heritage doesn't mean that it's not normal. If it WASN'T, the number of racist individuals would be low.
But it isn't. Therefor, I deem this 100% normal.
BUT, I can understand the OP's rage. It was probably a shock to hear that his/her father, their rolemodel, was leading this "secret life".
Am I detecting that Tommy is shielding his secret identity of benevolent supremist of the world? ( I take no ill intent in being harshly corrected.)
I can't say if it is or isn't, just because I don't like something doesn't make it wrong.
True, just because one doesn't like something doesn't make it automatically wrong. It is also indeed good to stand up for what you believe in. You're right about that too.
However, to stand up for something that is quite likely lead to all kinds of very nasty stuff, and more importantly, which clearly IS bullshit is foolish.
PS: from your other comments I gather you don't think ANYTHING is wrong, correct?
"from your other comments I gather you don't think ANYTHING is wrong, correct?"
You are attentive I see. Yes I do have a "broader" moral perception, but I certainly do think there are things that are "wrong". I'm not cold to injustice, rather many peoples idea of what could be considered just.
I know that hate breeds hate. Hating a white supremacist will only strengthen his resolve to hate others.
"Yes I do have a "broader" moral perception"
I'm genuinely very interested. Could you please explain it to me? (in a nutshell if necessary, because I realize it might be quite some effort otherwise).
"I certainly do think there are things that are "wrong". I'm not cold to injustice"
I see, perhaps I misjudged you. Then again, defending the actions of a child killer does seem pretty cold to me. Could you please give a good example of something you consider to be wrong?
"Hating a white supremacist will only strengthen his resolve to hate others."
Probably, yes. I don't hate white supremacists though. A lot of them are actually good people, but - in my view - also misguided. I just despise what they stand for. There was a time when I sympathized with their views BTW. Not anymore.
If he feels like he needs to reassert white dominance, than more power to him. Personally, I think white needs have taken a back seat to the toil of the colored for too long. This is coming from a black man.
Everybody is racist in one way or another. Your mother chose him and I'm sure she had her reasons. The best thing you can do is stay out of it. Unless you're perfect, you have no right to judge him or anyone else.
Weather you view them as right or wrong I feel everyone is entitled to their beliefs. So I don't think it's weird, I do find it odd that he was hiding it from you though. I'm my opinion this implies that he is either embarrassed about it or thinks its wrong on some level of consciousness. FYI I don't agree with his views
"Weather you view them as right or wrong I feel everyone is entitled to their beliefs."
Yes, but I think you also have to acknowledge that some beliefs are more likely to lead to violence.
Anyway, to persist in believing things that have been clearly demonstrated to be bogus, although that may be your right to do so, is just plain stupid nonetheless.
