Is it normal for my boyfriend to randomly start talking about his ex?

So I've been with this guy for about a year. For the most part everything is fine, but we have our ups and downs. I'm trying to find out if I'm driving myself crazy, any input would be greatly appreciated. Anywho here it goes, normally my bf is quite private about him and his exes. Which I have no problem with, I really don't want to know what he's done with them. First, he starts off out of nowhere and tells me this story about his ex gf and a sexual encounter. It really didn't bother me so I shrugged it off. Well about 2 weeks go by and we were kind of in a heated discussion and he calls me his ex's name..I look at him kind of dumbfounded (he has NEVER up until that time call me any other name) and he preceeds to say that I was acting like her. I dont know if I believe that, he's been on his cell phone texting and if i ask him who he's texting, he says his friend "todd". I've found him texting his ex gf when we first started our relationship. Am I going crazy from insecurity or do I actually have a reason to feel this way?

    I don't think you should check his phone. If you do thatand he is telling the truth then he'll be upset that you don't trust him. I think you should talk to him and tell him how you feel. Good luck! :)

    You know, if you look hard enough on the internet, there's some software for tracking phones and their texts. It's either for overprotective parents or really paroniod stalkers. I suggest you use it.

    thanks for the advice, ive tried to talk to him about it and he pretty much tells me im crazy and im the one who has something to hid. But the biggest thing that bugs me is while im going through his pictures almost all of them are blacked out..as in i need a password to get into them.. but the greatest advice to listen to is your gut..and my gut is doing twists and turns..

    hmmm... i would say check his phone, as awful as it sounds but ask him. Tell him that you are feeling 'insecure' and just so you can 'rest your mind at easy' you would like to look through his phone with HIS persmission. Here is the catch, if he says ok baby anything to make you at ease than he has nothing to hide BUT if he goes of on one.. than something is going down! try and see if you can ask him this when you THINk he is texting his friend 'todd' that way, you can have 'good enough' proof to catch him out IF he is up to something rather than checking his phone when all messages are deleted.
