Is it normal for my best friend to hate my boyfriend this much?

This is the strangest thing. My best friend is a boy that I've known for ten years. We've laughed together, cried together, and all that stuff. I've never felt anything towards him, and neither has he.Anyways, as of right now I am seeing this boy. He's great, treats me a lot better than any other boy I've dated. But my best friend can't STAND HIM! At first, he would just say a lot of things under his breath, or loud enough so we could hear him. But now it's gotten to the point where he is getting physical...with both of us.
I don't know what to do. I've asked him to stop, and told my boyfriend not to do anything because I still care about him but my friend just doesn't know when enough is enough! My boyfriend has suggested we call the cops or something but I don't want to have to resort to that. I can't tell my parents because they'll freak out, and my boyfriend is already at his breaking point. Is this normal? And should I take further action?

    Sounds like hes in love with you and hes jealous. If hes your good friend then you should talk to him and ask him why he hates your boyfriend so much.

    It sounds like he's jelouse. It's possible he loves you and he's in a jelouse rage, but you don't have to be in love with someone to be jelouse. For example, if you have a friend you hang out with all the time, then suddenly they have a boyfriend and now they don't hang out with you nearly as much. The resentment usually goes towwards your friends boyfriend. I might also suggest this though, there may be reasoning behind his anger. Maybe this boyfriend of yours isn't so nice after all, and he's doing stuff behind your back that your friend knows about but won't tell you cause he doesn't want to hurt your feelings? It's possible. Either way, remember that he is your friend! You need to talk to him and see what's going on! You sound close and it would be a shame to lose a good friend like that over a guy.     Your friend is in love with you and has big time emotional problems. I hope he doesn't have access to a gun.

    Your friend doesn't sound as good as you made him out to be in the first couple lines there. I agree with scarydino, both of those are possibilities. If you're so close with your friend, have you ever tried just asking him why he doesn't like your boyfriend?

    If your "friend" is getting physical with BOTH of you because of his hatred.... then it's time to break that friendship off.

    Yes you will hurt his feelings
    but if he's at the point where he's posing a physical threat then he's out of control as it is.

    babying someone who's acting out like that will only encourage more. He needs to understand that he can't be around you if he can't control himself

    If he's laying a hand on you and it's hurting you, then you should definitely call the cops. A few things are possible here. It's possible that your friend actually likes you secretly and is frustrated by the fact you're dating someone who he thinks may be better than him. It's also possible that your boyfriend is not telling you the whole truth and him and your friend have some conflict going on behind your back that you don't know about that's causing this to happen. Either way, if anything gets physical to the point where it's considered abusive, get help.
