Is it normal for my 5-year-old twins almost throw up when they cry?

My twin sons, James and Samuel, are 5. They're having quite a tough time at the moment, and they often get really upset.
They cry so hard that they nearly throw up.
This morning Samuel was sobbing his heart out, burying his head in my husband John's shoulder, when he sat up and coughed, like he does when he's getting sick. John rubbed his back and held his head to support him. We really thought he was going to throw up. He gasped a little then just cried a bit more, and said he was okay.
What do you think?

Yeah, that's what my husband, John, says. My youngest (by nine minutes!), Samuel, often gets a bit choked up after crying, so I guess they're sniffling a lot. They never actually throw up from crying, but they coughed so hard. The saddest thing is, if they had thrown up, they would've got sick right in John's lap! Bless 'em.

Extreme amounts of crying can make someone sick. It happens.
