Is it normal for mothers to drink this way?

So,

I am 21 years old, I never noticed this throughout my childhood, and only began to notice in my late teens, due to others mentioning it to me...

My parents probably spend around £35(GBP)/$54(USD) on alcohol per week, my dad drinks vodka, my mum drinks wine.

My mum will be asleep on the sofa drunk by 8:30pm on any night she isn't working the next day...(weekends, so fri,sat and often sunday), but she has long holidays so then too.

I never thought my parents drinking habits were abnormal, until my friends and current partner pointed it out to me.

I drink myself, maybe one or two drinks after work, then "let loose" at the weekend.

My aunt died at 40 y/o of alcoholism, and it has really made me think about the amount my parents consume.

Is it normal for your mother to fall asleep drunk on the sofa at 8:30pm regularly?

No, not really. It sounds like her drinking is becoming a problem.

No that is alcoholism. Look I'm not anti alcohol, I like partying on the weekends and what not, but if your mom spends more time drunk than not,( when she has the choice) she is probably an alcoholic, you could advise her help, but don't expect her to listen.. My best friends parents were alcoholics, and therefore she was used to it and never say anything wrong with it, so I would suggest you make a conscious effort to not go down the same path.

I don't think your parents drinking habits are normal. In fact i would go so far as to say they are probably alcoholics. Particularly as your aunt died of this illness. You say you drink once or twice during week and let loose at w/e which is prob fine now, but beware that your chances of being an alcoholic is quite high and watch your drinking...You don't want to end up like your aunt. All the best x

its probaly not fully normal no, but i drink most days im not doing something mainly because it makes me relax and have a good time, if its been going on for a long time then you should probaly talk to her about getting some help because its not good for her to be drunk all the time :/
