Is it normal for men to think having kids is irrational

I'm a 24 year old male. Is it normal for my demographic to think there is no rational reason to have kids. It seems to be a long term irreversible financial, time, and stress burden. The only rationale I can think of is to have someone to help out when you are old. But if your kids turn out to be a nightmare you can't just drop them off at the pound or on craigslist (like you could with a dog).

If this is normal, then why don't more men in their twenties get vasectomies for peace of mind? And so your partner knows kids aren't an option. Personally, I would, but don't get laid enough to warrant it :(

  • It is common to over hear women talking about their plan about having kids. Like, will they do it right after college, for instance. However, I never hear men talking about plans on having kids (sometimes they talk about planning on having another one). They just seem to announce out of the blue that they are going to be a father.

Were they thinking in advance they wanted to be a parent at some point? Or do the also kind of think it is irrational, but end up getting pressured into it by their wives/girlfriends.

It seems like it is taboo among men to ask about that kind of stuff directly.

It's completely normal. There is no selfless, rational reason to breed. I'm the kind of person who can't wait until the day the human race dies out, so for me, breeding is the most awful, selfish thing anyone could do.

I think showing your nasty ass face in public is the most awful, selfish thing YOU could do.

i kind of agree but see it as i dont want them now, but if i become very financially stable in the future- who knows? most kids are suprises!

It's normal to feel that way at some point in your life. Kids aren't for everybody, and knowing where you stand on the issue is great alot of people don't. I wouldn't suggest a vasectomy just incase kids are an option in the future there's plenty of time. Men don't stop the ability to produce children. Just let time progress and make sure any future/current partner you have knows where you stand on the issue

Get it on with a dog... you won't get kids nor you'd have got to do a vasectomy! Also you shouldn't drop a dog either!

    • Lack of a better response suggests to me that there isn't really a rational reason. I suppose some people just get hit by some innate instinct, and if you don't have it then there isn't any way to justify it.
