My girlfriend is from south africa and she is from the afrikaans speaking area so her first language was afrikaans she speaks perfect english as well and i just wanted to know if its normal that i want to learn afrikaans just to impress her and show her that i love her so much that id would learn her native language.
Well English along with Afrikaans is one of 11 official languages in the Republic of South Africa.
Considering you are a native English speaker, it shouldn't be too difficult picking up the language because of the similarities between English and Afrikaans.
