Is it normal for me to have homicidal/psychopathic thoughts...

In public?

Like, when I catch public transport, such as a train or bus, is it normal for me to WANT to kill certain people?
Not in a "That person is annoying me, I want to kill them" kind of way, more like I think of strangling/slitting the throat/mutilate/beat them to a pulp with a heavy object, kind of way, and I don't care if there are witnesses or not during these thoughts...

I know this isn't probably a good thought, but please comment on how I can "combat" these thoughts as they are slowly getting worse and worse (For example the other day at work I had a Stanley knife and was holding it as if I were about to slit a fellow co-workers throat just for fun)

    It wouldn't be normal for me, no. The worst I used to think about people on public transport was, "Will you please shut up instead of melting my brain with your inane twaddle about your sister-in-law's wait for a carpet fitter to arrive and that she had to rearrange her hair appointment?"

    No it is not. Maybe you have anti social disorder. Not like I am a doctor but these people tend to be outwardly violent with out reason. They will sometimes have a bad temper and do not get a long with people well. They might have urges like you described and it has no cause but they really want to. Check yourself into anger management and if it doesn't help see a psychologist/therapist.

    Someone with this may be Callous unconcern for the feelings of others;

    Gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations;

    Incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them;

    Very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence;

    Incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, particularly punishment;

    Markedly prone to blame others or to offer plausible rationalizations for the behavior that has brought the person into conflict with society.

    I wouldn't think you'd need medication, so I'd recommend a therapist to deal with you anger and violent thoughts. Actually, I think you'd be an easy client, because you can articulate your problem. Sound like you had an abusive childhood. It's not a matter of "combatting" your thoughts as much as discovering their cause, and working through it.

    No, not normal. You should see a Doctor of Psychiatric Medicine. Normally, you will need a referral from your Family Physician for this first.
