Biting is another method of self-harm. If you are biting yourself in order not to cut, you're self-harming nonetheless.

I know both are ways to self harm. but that's the only method I find it easier to stop cutting.

    Biting yourself isn't self harm?

Cutting is more dangerous/permanent than biting (that being said, I'm not aware how much pressure you're applying when you do.) So I suppose biting is a better alternative, though I use the term loosely. You should consider some help from family, friends, or a professional in order to stop self-harming entirely. It seems that you have some unresolved issues that cause you to do these things, possibly some mental disorder as well, however it's not my place to make those judgements. Instead of cutting you could try squeezing ice cubes, snapping a rubber band, etc..

What dafuq do you think?! We're crazy people on the Internet, NOT soc-soca-socalogist(SP?). Meet with a theropist in secret then. But if this keeps going on...Tell your parents. They'll be understanding, I promise. No one wants to find their child dead. PLEASE GET HELP!!! Hope you recover :)

If it's not self harm, what is it? This isn't rocket science, you're hurting yourself when you bite your arm, hand, whatever, thus self harming.

Biting and cutting are both forms of self-harm.

The fact that you want to cut makes me think its something deeply mental. However the fact you're trying to stop it by substituting for something less harmful means you're aware that this isn't right.

try to find other ways to clam the urges
