Is it normal for lots of hair to come out when washing your hair?

Whenever I condition my hair in the shower and run my fingers through my hair, a suprising ammount of hair comes out. I don't have a bad diet or any disorders or anything so I don't know why this happens. Do other people with long hair get this too?

Shampoo... not much hair falls out.

    Conditioner... OMG I'm going bald!

I have long, fine, yet thick hair. My hair sheds like mad in the shower. I have to be careful or I clog the drain. But it's normal for me. I probably shed 100 hairs a day. Conditioner just pulls it out in the shower rather than my brush. Don't worry about it, that doesn't help. It is completely normal to lose hair in the shower.

  • Completely normal! You're supposed to lose at least 8,000 hairs every week.

I've always lost a lot of hair in the shower. My mom does too but yet neither of us are going bald. I think it's normal for some people. Even though it's aggravating it's normal.

    I had a similar problem.
Many things can cause this: naturally brittle/fragile hair, water's too hot/showering too long (softens hair), hair's tired of products (you should change brands every few months, as hair 'gets used to them'), handling hair too much, climate and seasonal changes affect hair, and of course poorly kept/cut/coloured hair suffers.

Go to a top salon in your area and ask to speak with a master stylist. A consultation should cost you nothing, but they can give your hair a look and figure out your issues.
