Is it normal for lies?

Hi,
I work with someone who is 47 years old and acts like a child, but he came out with a story that is quite sick and sad, he said that his girlfriend had an operation and 2 days later died. Now work thought it would be nice to send flowers, so instead of upsetting he guy and asking him about funeral directors etc they rang the crematorium and the other one nearby and neither have a service for this person. There are a lot of twists to what he is telling people and none of it matches at all, he knows we all talk to each other but he still tells one person one thing and another something different, I really think he has something wrong going on. He even tried to tell me that they were putting her guitar in her coffin, I said the coffin must be quite deep then, he said no we are breaking it up but we are worried about any metal parts!!
