Is it normal for kids to serve their father?

I was just thinking the other day, and I remember that from when I was about 6 or 7 until I was 14, my dad would always call on me to do shit for him. It was the same with my bro and sis too. Every night he would constantly be calling for one of us to pour him another drink, or make him snacks and other little stuff like that. I remember hating every night b/c you never knew when you'll have to get up and do something for him. I guess around when I turned 14 I just started ignoring him.. dunno why I didn't think of that earlier.

But anyways, I'm just wondering if this is normal.

I always tried to get my parents to buy a snowblower so I wouldn't have to shovel snow, their answer was that they already had snowblowers, (us).

*After* the last of us grew up and moved out they bought a mechanical one. Kids are good for manual labor apparently. :)

Your dad seems to be adhering to a 50s father where the entire family revolves around the father figure. Either that or your father is an alcoholic or drug user (look for the signs) and if so definately seek help.

Ha yeah my dad is like the most straight person there is.. I've never even seen him have a drink, and he's a doctor, so he deals with addicts all the time. I'm not really upset about it or anything. This was 6 years ago. I was just wondering if it's normal for kids to serve their parents.

    Apparently, not.

he really should be asking you to help with the housework and not getting him food. he sounds really lazy and not an alcoholic. just because someone asks for a drink, that doesnt mean its alcoholic. so he didnt get shirty with you when you ignored him? then dont worry about it.

Your father needs help. He sounds like an alcoholic.

If you are still in school, talk to your guidance counselor. If you are older, contact Alcoholics Anonymous or your local hospital for outreach programs that may help your father and your family.

I hope he gets the help he needs.
