Is it normal for humans to smile when people cry?
I've noticed a lot that people smile when someone they're with or interacting with is crying. I'm curious if this is normal and if there is a reason behind it.

Earlier today I was lauging so hard I started to cry. People smiled at that. Actually, they laughed. Which made me laugh harder.
But crying in sadness gets smiles too. Usually a sympathetic smile of concern or understanding. But it can also indicate awkwardness if the crying is causing a scene. I think it's normal. People smile for all sorts of reasons.
Cause it's fun seeing other peoples misfortune, makes us feel better about our own problems.
I don't know Jane Goodall, tell me another theory you have on us primates.
EDIT: Holy shit, what I just said is so factually wrong
Maybe it's a nervous reaction. Some people (myself included) are unsure of how to handle other people's emotions, and so react the only way they know how, which, in some cases, is by smiling.
