Is it normal for christians to want everyone to follow their rules?

It's obvious no surprise that many are homophobic and all that, blah blah blah. The only part of that actually blows my mind, is that so many of them (not all obviously) are actually incapable of acknowledging there are other beliefs and religions that aren't Christianity. I just don't get how they can actually think the entire United States should have to obey the laws of their religion? How narrow can one's mind be!?

It is the essence of religion.
They are trying to bully everyone into following their rules.

"You have to be respectful of Jesus Christ!" - Well, no, actually. I didn't know this guy. If he existed at all.

"You can't draw pictures of Mohamed! It is forbidden in Islam!" - Well, since I'm not a moslem, I don't have to follow the rules of Islam. Crazy, right?

And, of course, there are the Jews, who were able to successfully merge their religion with their nationality, in order to exempt it from criticism.
Nice try. Their nationality I don't criticize, because it is not a choice. A religion is an idea or a set of ideas. These contain as much bullshit in Judaism as in any other religion. These need to be criticized.

That's what annoys me about them; most of congress calls itself "Christian," we have people discriminating against homosexuals, women, transpeople, and even other races based on their narrow understanding and, as most Christians would even call it, blasphemous and literal reading of an anthology of documents assembled centuries after the authors' deaths, and yet these people have the gall to whine and throw conniptions whenever Muslims or other groups complain and demand that the rest of society restructure their habits around their beliefs. They whine that other groups should 'just get over it' but G-d help you if you say "happy holiday" to them or use the government in some way that penalizes them or abridges their rights in some way - "THAT'S OUR RIGHT!!!"

That's not Christianity itself. It's close-minded religious individuals.

There are a lot more Christians who open their hearts than there are who don't. Those Christians have softer voices.

It always bugs me when ppl lump all Christians together. I'm Christian but I find a lot of my fellow believers to be quite crazy. Unfortunately it seems like the more publicly vocal someone is about their religion the more likely they are to be a nutcase who makes us all look bad.

Bollocks, I suppose you think it's normal to treat women like a dog, they can't even walk down the street next to there husband, they have to walk behind them, forced in to marriage, forced to have sex with husband even though they find the repulsive, have to cover up from head to toe, get a grip!

I completely understand. It's like they cannot realize that there are other ways of thinking. Well, most of them don't realize that. Some do.

I think one of the most impressive bits of insanity of the christian religions is that they believe that if one has never even heard of christ or christianity when one dies, that automatically means you are damned to hell for all eternity. Whatever happened to gawd's love of all mankind?
Nice. Love your fellow man except those who have never even heard of your gawd; just damn them. That sure is a good christian attitude, right?

I've had people throwing Leviticus at me since yesterday's Supreme Court ruling. I ask them whether they wear clothes of mixed fabrics or plant two kinds of crops in the same field. They either avoid the question or say something about some sins are worse than others. Such tripe.

        Fundies Greatest Hits:

        1. BUT DAT WAS DUH OLD TESTUHMENT!!!

        2. Well, some parts of the old covenant are still good (and though I'm not saying it out loud, I think I know, based on my own biases, which those are).

        3. Love the sinner, hate the sin.

        4. Mentions of slavery in the Bible, both OT and NT, are rooted in historical context and have no bearing on today's issues. The Bible is not to be taken literally in all time periods on this issue.

        5. HOMOSECKSOOALITTEH IS WRONG! SEZ SO IN THA BAHBURR AND ITS THU UNCHANGIN' WORD O' GAWD!!!

        6. It's just wrong because the Bible and, um, the - and, like so (shit shit shit!!! I've given so much money to those guys who said it was wrong that I can't stop now!!!).

There's something in there about not wearing the clothing of the other gender too, not sure of the wording, but my fundamentalist father used to rave on about it to try & stop my sister & I from wearing shorts in the summer.

He slapped my face once for asking if that meant scotsmen shouldn't wear kilts and wasn't jesus wearing nighties in those pictures?

The women and girls in my immediate (Christian) family wore shorts and pants but a lot of my extended family were of the "thou shalt only wear dresses or skirts" opinion.
