Is it normal for braces to fail in the long run?

I got braces around 12 years ago to fix a big gap between my front teeth and to straighten a diagonal incisor, then got it removed a few years afterward. But recently I've noticed that the gap is returning and that incisor is getting crooked again. Maybe I just have bad gums or something?

well if you get the at 12 im not suprised, many dentists now say you should get them a bit later in life (14-17 ish)
one of my brothers had a brace between 11 and 12 and just 7 yrs later they whent crooked again.
me and my other brother (i had even more crooked teeth to begin with) got them at around 14 and 10 yrs on still perfectly straight.
many peoples teeth aven't settled yet until they'r 12-14 the bone needs to be well hard so once your braces go on it's a more solid foundation.

I had buck teeth with extra gum tissue between them. I couldn't close my mouth all the way and got made fun of all the time at school so I had no choice but to get it fixed. I had surgery to remove the excess gum tissue and braves to straighten my teeth. That was 11 years ago.

These days I have a slight gap between my teeth, but thankfully they have never gone back to being bucked. Though something that bugs me is that a couple of years ago, a little kid in my neighborhood asked me when I was going to get braces, so ever since then I have felt paranoid that my teeth are getting bad again but no one in my daily life says anything. Therefore I try not to smile with my teeth around strangers or in Facebook photos.

I was supposed to have a permanent retainer behind my teeth, but it kept breaking. I also had a removable retainer that the orthodontist wanted me to wear 24/7, but that broke a couple of years ago and I never bothered to get another one.

My teeth have never been crooked, but I have a gap between my two front teeth as well. I was supposed to have braces ages ago, but I just wasn't for it. I do wish I had a dollar for every time my dad tried to persuade me to get them, though.

My brother had braces and didn't wear his retainer when he got them off. His teeth went back to being crooked.
