Is it normal for birds to make nests out of humans hair?

I know that some hair shops throw their cut hair out for birds to make nests & stuff, is that true/normal?

Its true. I knew a guy with a german sheperd that shed clumps of hair all the time. I saw birds come get the hair and fly off with it. They like string too. Lots of neat stuff make up birds nests

Btw I had a canary who collected my hair from around the house to build her nests, so they do use it.

They say if you put human hair in your garden, it will keep the animals out. Maybe birds use it to keep the predators away???
