Is it normal for anti-depressant's to do this?

my sister just started taking depression/bipolar pills and she turned into a delusional slut. Its kinda embarrassing. She has big mindless eyes and a big goofy grin. She's flirting with everyone, also showing strong retaliation in stupid stuff. Can barely walk up stairs. Is it normal? are these pills screwing up alot of teens out there or does she need to adjust?

I think that she should probably go talk to a doctor. I'm sure the pills are helping her but she seems to be experiencing some bad motor side-effects.

Yeah. I will never understand why people come to this site for medical advice.

yes. pills screw up peoples brains. psychologists and therapists prescribe people all kinds of pills to drug them up as a temporary 'fix' so they don't bother anyone, and/or convert people to a "socially accepted norm" , there's no such thing as bi polar disorder, its just a way to keep those 'doctors' in business and so people can use that as an excuse to over react and just blame it on a disorder when in fact they need to check themselves and figure out whats going wrong in their life that makes them so angry in the first place to want to lash out at everyone and resolve those issues.

my sister is also on medication for being extremely bipolar. this reflects her as well. she is a whore, likes to use people, self consumed, and lives in a detached reality. when she is off her medicine it is as if she could not be a bigger bitch and totally can not function in society. keep her drugged up or you will regret it. I promise.

Dont take pills. They tend to have aftershocks.

    1st is opinion
    2nd is fact

Yeah anti depressants are fucked I got prescribed to them to combat meth addiction. (funny how to get off drugs they give you drugs) anyway the anti depressants fucked me up and I stopped taking them. I don't recommend anyone takes them, there are other remedies out there.

Lots of times it takes time to adjust but this is not a normal adjustment reaction. She needs to talk to her doc about changing her meds.

this sounds exactly like my bipolar friend! she does NOT take antidepressants and the pills that she does take for it, she doesnt actually take them regularly which im sure contributes to her extreme mood swings and whatnot. you should make sure she is actually taking her antidepressants, because this definitely sounds like someone who doesnt take their meds (or at least doesnt take them how they are supposed to)

yeah, this sounds about right. it may take her several perscriptions to find a pill that works for her. im on lithium now and its wooooonnnnnnnderful, but i was on 3 or 4 pills before this that did a bunch of whack shit.

I wouldn't say it's "normal" but antidepressants do have a noticeable effect in some people. With my sister-in-law, she couldn't stop talking. With a good friend, he became immensely sociable. I mean to a degree that was really over the top. If he'd have been female, he'd have been pregnant a few times over. When I took them they caused a level of paranoia that still scares me. Going against medical advice, I ditched them completely after a month and slowly worked my way out of depression. This approach isn't a recommendation, by the way.

Medications are out of balance if they are affecting her this much! What the hell kinda pills do they have her on?

Wow, sounds like some mania there. As for the not being able to walk, that shouldn't be happening with medications. She sounds like she needs an adjustment.

If she is bipolar she should not be taking antidepresants. They will put her into a manic state which may be happening. My sister- in-law is bipolar but I don't know the name of her medication.

as i have a masters degree in psychology i can say that you are 50% correct. antidepressants are known to cause mania in persons with bipolar disorders however they may still be safely used if it is accompanied with a mood stabilizer. Perhaps she is taking the stabilizer??

Actually, you need antidepressants with bipolar, to treat the depression. But you are absolutely right that antidepressants help put you in a manic state, which is why you need mood stabilizers as well. I always take a mood stabilizer as well as antidepressant, to keep me in the more neutral zone.

what pills are these and do they still work when mixed in drinks?....lol jk

but i know anti depressants can really fuck people up. it fuck up my uncle so bad, he attempted suicide like 5 years ago.

i personally do take any pills if i can help it, even asprin, ill take medicine if i have to cure something, or maybe an antihistamine if i keep suffering from these allergies. BLAHHH

so normal, it in the side effects, and i think this is a red flag and you maybe need to see if there is a alternative one she can try if it gets out of hand

You are correct. Some medicines do increase the risk of suicide and homicidal tendencies. It is important that the psychiatrist and psychologist closely monitor the patients behavior and reactions to the medicine prescribed. As our body composition and functionality are so diverse and complex in relation to each individual person, it is not uncommon to go through several medications to find the one that is most beneficial.
