Is it normal for an indian not to be able to handle spicy food

Despite being Indian, for some reason, I'm unable to handle any spicy/hot food. This includes curry and anything to do with turmeric and superhot Indian chilis and spices.

I haven't had curry in like 6 months now. I was the kind of person who could devour entire dishes of lamb pasanda, vindaloo, tandoori chicken, Amritsari fish and mutton roganjosh in a single seating. I mean people would admire my ability to handle so much hot curry.
For Indians, food is a passion like Italians. The curry portion sizes are huge and if you're a man, everyone expects you to devour enormous slabs of meat. I mean Tandoori chicken is so amazing it puts all KFC/fried chicken to shame.

Today I'm just the complete opposite of what I used to be. My daily diet now consists of bread, butter, cheese and fruits, and cold cuts. Occasionally I have a KFC but that's because it's very mild compared to Tandoori chicken.

My stomach can no longer handle curries. I feel this burning sensation everywhere from the heart to the anus. I have stomach pain for at least 2 to 3 days after eating curry. Forget about Indian, I can't even handle the milder Thai/Indonesian curries and Mexican food. Or pizza.

I feel so awkward nowadays during social functions. I can't eat any food. I avoid staying with my family as they'll cook curry everyday.

Have you been to a doctor?

You might have an ulcer or an issue with acid reflux, or it could be something more serious.

It's not normal to develop a sudden intolerance to foods that you otherwise enjoyed with no problem.

Sudden changes in your body like this are not normal and might indicate an underlying medical issue.

And ignore that comment about spice being bad for you- it can be very good for you (research it).

Always best to listen to your body. Spicy food is certainly not for everyone, but I don't know why the change occurred.

Spicy curry is not good for health. India is located in tropic and given the climate, Indians should not have been eating too much spices.

Then why do the consume them? The reason is their endorphin addiction. Eating spices is painful to tongue and as a counter measure brain releases endorphins which gives a sense of satisfaction. Indians are addicted to it.

You have been having a lot of spices in past and as a result the normal amount of endorphin is unable to counter the pain spices cause and your digestive system is unable to process it.

Spicy food is harmful and addictive. It's not wise to feel proud about eating spices. It's like having pride for doing drugs.

Given your current condition I suggest you to refrain from consuming spices.

    I wish you the best.

Similar to people who get an endorphin release after exercise. I tell them they're just drug addled scumbags, hopped up on cardio, but they never listen.
      Drug addicts rarely do...

Excersice is not harmful to health. On contrary it's actually beneficial. It makes them entirely different.
I hope you understood the point.

I wrote a comment, but deleted it, cos it sounded a bit mean and snarky...I wrote it after I just woke up. Sorry about that.
I don't think eating spicy food is anything close to being a drug addict... but it doesn't really matter.
