Is it normal for an engineering student to not get enough sleep?

I'm a sophomore studying mechanical engineering at the 5th best engineering school in the country. My classes are really hard and I get an average of 5-6 hrs of sleep a night (on the weekends, maybe 6-7 hrs) but I'm only taking 14 credit hours. I don't have time for socializing and my grades aren't all that great. I know engineering is a tough major, but I thought most people could at least get two of the three (social life, sleep, or good grades). Am I dumb, or is it normal to have such a hard time in engineering?

I'm a Criminal Justice student with a full-time job and I get about 5-6 hours to sleep a night on average, and 6-7 during the week and when I am not at work or school or studying, I am trying to get more sleep. I have little to no social life. But I know folks that work two full-time jobs and take 18 units and still have a social life and get enough sleep. Bastards.

You're normal. Anyone outside of your circumstances might be considered abnormal.

Ok. I'm in the exact same situation, except I'm a chemical instead of mechanical. Do you always have this situation or just at times? I can usually pull all three but sometimes it goes down to one when I pull all-nighters and talk to no one.

You're in college and college can be hectic. You say that your classes are hard so, you're probably stressed out. Stress can also effect your sleeping patterns. It's not healthy for you to get that little amount of sleep. If you can, maybe take a nap in-between classes.
    Good Luck!
