Is it normal for an acquaintance to pat your head?

Alright so to give some context, I've known this guy just over 8 years but we were never close or anything (went to the same schools).

We run into each other a lot at my university campus and he pats my head and says hi, usually when I'm sitting down (and/or staring at my phone) and because I'm short. He also strikes up a conversation which took me off guard (we've never held a conversation before).

I usually would get angry if someone did it but he was a former crush so you know ;)

So what does this all mean? I need to over analyse everything to reassure myself.

Wait, how many pats was it?

One pat obviously means 'we're friends'

    Two pats means, 'hey sexy'

Three or more pats means 'hmm, you have an excellent cranium. I would enjoy cooking your cerebellum for dinner tonight...'

I dunno. Patting someone one the head is what people do to dogs and little kids, except in Vietnam. Don't ever pat a little kid on the head in Vietnam! It's very bad manners in Vietnam to pat a child on the head.

It's a superstition about the soft spot on the top of small children's heads. People believe that bad spirits can be transfered to the children via a pat on the head thru the soft spot. My dad served two tours in and taught me that. I don't pet children on the head because it seems condescending to me and also that old Vietnamese superstition my dad taught me.
        :-)

Now when it comes to my sister's toy poodle, Dewey Ray, I can't keep my hands off of him he's a dream boat. I love him like he's my own dog!

I know of another Vietnamese superstition...
...It's considered bad luck to run your water buffalo over a landmine.

Funny since Vietnamese people today are still getting killed by landmines left from the VN War.
