Is it normal for amphetamines to calm and relax me, i have adhd?

Hi over the last five years I have occasionally used amphetamine to calm down and relax due to my severe ADHD. In August our home partially burnt down and our large family are being evicted as of 5 January 2013. This had made my ADHD considerably worse so over the last few months on Friday night I have used more regularly. I have only ever injected it seemed to me to be the best choice for me. I seem to have a high tolerance so the one point most people would be happy with does nothing for me, my preference for the right amount of calm would be about three points. I also have a bleeding disorder which means I have to dilute much more than 'normal' people, I have found that by using Nurofen fifteen minutes before helps, this in practical terms causes my platelets to become like Teflon causing the reaction to be more satisfying. My preferred method is to sit in a fairly hot shower to inject.
After this I talk more softly, slowly, I am incredibly calm. I walk slower and usually prefer to lay on my bed in the dark and listen to quiet music...this is the most rested and peaceful I have ever felt.
I have told my Doctor what I have done and the results, she referred me to a mental health clinic who refuse to help me. As nice as this all is it is expensive and I would prefer to get some proper medical assistance for my condition.
Rant over...my question is, is there anyone else out there like me, who reacts in the same or similar fashion? If so what do you do and have you been able to get proper medical assistance? Was it hard to get and how much did it cost? The mental health system in Australia is sadly lacking

Ive worked in hospitals for 13 yrs, and im aware that little kids with ADD/ADHD are prescribred pharmaceutical grade amphetamine.. the same exact molecule as the illegal drug.. so, what u say made sense to me. Although IV use is scary. You ought to avoid needles if possible, or at least never share needles! Im not familiar with australian protocol though.

  • Is it normal that I don't read a post when I realise that its actually a testiment to how sad the poster's life is?

Adderall is not available in Australia the only two medications are dexamphetamine and methylphenidate they are prescription only and can only be prescribed to adult once they have waited on the public health list for approx 12 months to see a psychiatrist who will asses you and if he/he feels you have a case then you go in front of a panel of three other psychiatrists who will then diagnose and medicate. Otherwise these medications are sold illegally on the street but much harder to get than amphetamines. So not favourable news all round really.
