Is it normal for all guys to fake being gay?

Now I sound like my grandma, peaches n' cream.

No, but really now, is it like a trend or something? Because I know boys, who want to be gay, but can't pull it off worth crud. Then I know boys who want to be gay, because they think people will accept them.

Is it a trend or is it just acceptable in society now to fake your sexual orientation?

  • I dunno man. The record amount of people identifying as straight these days is really suspicious, seems like a trend if you ask me.

To be serious, I don't know anyone who would want to fake being gay. All the gay people I know online and real life have issues with harassment, and I know some gay guys who have been assaulted or gotten slurs thrown at them, especially in less progressive or Bible Belt type areas. I have some friends who get hate mail, nsfw and disturbing imagery, and slurs sent to them online regularly by people because they are well-known online users who are out as gay.

I think it is normal to be curious about your sexuality, but all the people I know who say they're gay say it for the same reason straight people say they're straight. Because that's the way they swing.

Women fake being gay because it gets them something- the undivided attention of every hetero male in the room. I've never heard of a guy getting anything out of "faking gay". You don't see many closeted straight people. My guess is that a lot of these "fakers" aren't really faking, they're pretending to fake so they can get a feel for how everyone would react. If their friends are all worthless bigots like Mr. "I hate faggots" up there, these people can pretend it was just a game and look for a safer, healthier environment to come out in.

As many people will tell you, sexuality can be very fluid. With social norms now being turned on their heads in modern times (such as with homosexuality being accepted by many people), people can be more open and freely explore this fluidity of sexuality.

So in a way, yes it is a trend. Some people are still finding out what their true sexual identity is, others just want to look cool. Believe it or not, some guys think saying they're gay will get girls to open up to them more. The reason all this is more apparent now is because society has finally released the shackles off the topic. The main point is to be understanding and respectful of everyone.

Well I guess that is a bit more comforting to have my question answered...still, I think being gay and bi sort of lost it's originality.

I know that type of thing doesn't really matter, but still. It's kind of pissing me off for immature, selfish reasons. Like all the guys, the actual attractive ones at my college, tell me their gay now... >.<'''
I have nothing against gay's or homosexuals, I have a load of them as friends. I just find it really gay to 'pretend' your gay. Because not only do those people give the REAL gays out there a bad name, they're doing it for stupid reasons. Like you said, 'some guys think saying they're gay will get girls to open up to them more', I have never met anybody who would do something like that just for a girl...
