Is it normal- for a woman to sit on their father's lap .in public?

How bizzare is the life of those around us?my sister is married to a man, with 2 younger sisters- 23 and 28. when they are out in public- they cant stay clear of daddy's lap. Even if there is concert seating available. Their daughter(my niece) is getting older- and we need to convey that this is not normal behavior- without meddling in the family's personal afairs. It stops short of heavy petting, but the rubbing of each others shoulders etc- creeps me out- grandpa abused one of the girls sexually- her father remained in contact till his death. Are they fooling around behind closed doors? The mom is an oblivious flake. Dropped the ball protecting her daughters. How can i ensure my niece's safety without breaking any laws?

    We only have your interpretation of events to go on, your 'tinted lens'. That means we can't really be objective.

    Different families have different ways of expressing affection. Lap sitting, hugging, shoulder massages etc. are all within the realm of ordinary contact.

    That's not to say there couldn't be incestuous behaviour behind the scenes, only that, as it is, you have very little to go on. Based on the previous abuse by the grandparent, it's also easier to misinterpret behaviour.

    It's not up to you to "convey that this is not normal behavior" because, frankly, it could be perfectly normal. You need to find out more before you start pointing fingers, because false accusations can destroy families.

      Right- my belly button says its creepy. That is why my multiple choice questions are off-kilter. A yes or no poll- would certainly weigh in favor of the yes selection. I am looking for a voice Of reason, to say- yeah sure- i straddled my daddy's lap all the time-and it wasn't intimate behavior- or something to satiate us till the mixed company leaves!

    I couldn't even follow this. You certainly lack the ability to construct a properly written story.

    The daughters that sit on Dad's lap, are they 23 and 28? If so, it's none of your damn business and who cares.

    If there is something going on? They are adults and can mak their own decisions.

    Now I'm sure you could snoop around and MAYBE find something dirty that also may be illegal (incestuous activity) but do you really want to be the one to put your family through that?

    And what in the hell do you care what your sister's husband's adult sister's are doing, are you jealous?

    Wondering why they are sitting on daddy's lap and not yours?

      Because sometimes abuses are commited against children without their parents being aware. My sister is a little off-she said that "becca" and her dad had an intimate relationship. My concern is for her baby-my niece. And what she may be exposed to while in the company of my brother in law's family.

        I seriously doubt it. What would make you think they wound be so close to their dad in their 20s if there was previous sexual abuse.

        When a child is abused they usually don't grow closer to their abuser as they age and learn what has happened, nor do they expose other children.

    If that is their dad why not? It is not like they are brother and sister french kissing like those celeberties. I would say just let them be. I mean even if it does not sound normal as long as they are not doing wrong or bothering anyone. Let them be daddy girls forever. If they are all ok with it. If the dad doesn't care I don't see why its a big issue. It is like saying "You can not wear a tie to casual Friday". Come on does it matter?

    I think it is cute, although I would have to read the body language, facial gestures, tone of voice, etc..to get a real vibe...can you upload a little vid off your smart phone?

    on the one hand I dont think adults that were actually abused as children would still feel that comfortable with daddy...maybe a real little kid who still has not processed the abuse etc might...but these girls are now women and the sound like they still love daddy and being daddys little girl...with all the talk about abuse these days they would know right and wrong....

      Except for the fact that grandpa molested one of the sisters- and his son didn't even question his dad-. His daughter went on to use Opiates- and slept with many to support her addiction. You can't remove rape culture from our society. Where am i going? Who will see how im dressed? Am i traveling alone? Do i have a safe Place to get intoxicated? Do i have a safe place to sleep it off?. These are questions that men are never concerned with- because there are no triggers associated with a man's sexual assault. Unless they are in jail.

        It's true we generally don't have to worry about being raped after reaching adulthood. I would like to point out, however, that we are far more likely to be the victim of a violent (non sexual) assault than women.

        Where am I going? Am I traveling alone? Do I have a safe place to get intoxicated? Do I have a safe place to sleep it off?

        These ARE questions men should and often do consider, as not doing so can result in dangerous situations (fights, muggings, stabbings, shootings, murder etc.). Males are around 4 times more likely to be murdered in the US, twice as likely to be the victims of violence and more likely to be murdered by a stranger. So whilst the threat is predominantly of a different nature, it is still a threat.
