Is it normal for a woman to be so low on confidence?

I have a friend who has no confidence in herself at all. She thinks she's hideous and worthless and she has a really negative outlook on the world. She gets misjudged by others because she stands out and it has ruined her confidence. She is a really nice woman aswell, we get along great.
So basically I have two questions here for anyone bothered to read past the title and leave a comment:
1. Is it normal for a woman to have such a lack in confidence that gives her a hugely negative outlook on the world?
2. Is it normal that when people gain alot of confidence that their views change? For example, I have an old friend who completely adjusted her morals when she developed confidence. Truthfully she was an extreme case of going to college and suddenly being the popular girl that all the guys wanted, but I still think it's wierd that a shift in confidence would also alter what you viewed as right or wrong.

I also have a friend who is like this. Like, we are walking on the street and we pass by some guys who are laughing. She will go "Were they laughing at me because I am ugly?", or if I reply with a laugh to her she will go "Are you replying like this because you think i'm silly?" or if i ask why is she doing something she is like "oh right, i shouldnt. im an idiot"; or if i ask about this guy who seemed to like her, she is like "no he didnt like me. he just liked the fact i have a hole down there he can use. but i bet he thinks im ugly"
or when i ask about the guys she got with, she says "jeez all my guys were ugly. i guess i desrve that. im ugly too"

shes not a diva but she is not ugly at all so it makes me feel bad. i try to cheer her up and make her realise shes not that ugly and that i love her for the way she is.

I have a friend like that too. She has no confidence in herself and no self esteem. Frankly, it's hard for me to talk to her because of it.

I wouldn't say it's normal, but it happens. Just try to be the best friend you can be, I guess.

I know someone like this. She makes me a bit sad because she can't see what everyone else sees in her. I think a lot of people are like this, to an extent. Perception is a strange thing. It does change your outlook and your attitude. I don't know how much it changes things yet, though. I guess it depends.
