Is it normal for a white person to hang out in the ghetto late at nigh

I was watching the wire and I wanted to know if the streets were tough. I parked my car in Harlem around 3 am and just started walking around. There were all sorts of people on the street and no one would talk me. They kept calling me 5-o I don't know what that means. Anyways my family doesn't think this is normal but I think it is fine because I saw it on a tv show. No wonder my wife divorced me. Help me, gary
