Is it normal for a tutor to tell a student about their depression?

Right so i've always been closer with this one tutor more than any others. She's taught me for 3 years and we're close, comfortably close. Not over the top, but i could get away with more in class than some others. I went through a bad time when she was teaching me when my dad died, so i think this may be why she opened up to me, because i've cried to her in the past. The conversation was fairly short; about an hour. she basically said she hated her job and boss, and she battled depression and was on double pills. she regularly said to me that i was alot like her child, and we share the same name, so she compared us alot and said i was just as 'cheeky' as her child. Was this tutor to open with me as her student?

I don't think it was a good idea to open up like this to you. If you had told her about some depression that you'd been suffering and she tells you about her depression as a way to show you that you're not alone (within the same conversation), then I think that's fine. Other than that, she needs to confide in her adult friends or family, not her students.

It's normal for people to suffer and also to find ways of dealing with things. Whether you help someone deal with it is down to you. This is entirely your choice.

Although it's not conventional, reality isn't conventional. Forget what idiot TV says. Think for yourself. Think about what you would want and, as much as possible, do that for someone else.

I know it seems like a mystery but, at heart, we all want the same thing. We seek to divide ourselves but we're genuinely the same. Love, respect, hope, and peace.

Teachers, tutors, lecturers, they complain all the time and they're human just like us. I'm surprised she trusts you though. Isn't this impacting on your education?

Well its kind of unprofessional but she is human. She said you remind her of herself and her child so she is projecting on you.

She sees you have something in common with her and so she might have some closeness to you. Its not normal to have this type of relationship with a student but its normal for her to have feelings.

I not sure how the other adults will see it but I don't think you have anything to worry about as far as her hurting you. Shes just a very sad woman that needed a shoulder to cry on. I guess she just happened to choose you. When people are in pain they will look for someone to confined in. She seems to treat you more like a BFF than her student though.
