Is it normal for a toddler to talk about death so much?

She keeps saying she's dead, dying, etc. when she's playing or sometimes when throwing a tantrum. She has this imaginary friend ( I guess that's what it is) named Crike who she sometimes says is bloody or choking. One time she imitated blood coming from Crike's chest. I think it might be some movies she's seen (her grandma told me she's been watching horror flicks with her), but it's really starting to creep me out. I think it started when we watched Tarzan II - Tarzan fell and got knocked out and she thought he was dead and started crying. But i didn't even know she knew about death before that. She then had to discern sleeping and falling from dying. Is this normal, just a stage maybe?

Talk to her about death and dying and answer all her questions no matter how hard they are. As long as she feels like death is this big scary thing that no one likes talking about, it'll be the only thing on her mind. Also try to stop her from watching horror movies, she's probably too young for those. I doubt anything's wrong with her, it's just a phase but you need to help her get through it.

The name Crike sounds like “crikey” as in “Crikey! Look at that!”
I grew up with songs, books, etc. with all this kind of thing in, & the nastier they were the more they appealed. They gave me some weird dreams, but I loved them. It never felt right to me to be any other way.

Plenty of people who want to end their lives never do.

Sum children can stumble on to exestentialism at a very young age. Death is s powerful thing to imagine, especially of your child is intelligent and is trying to grasp the concept. Dont freak out, dont act strangely towards them because of it, just be mindful as they get older. Itl be fine :)

While I agree that the thing with the bloody choking imaginary friend is kind of disturbing, I remember that when my nieces and nephews were very young they frequently talked about death and dying. I thought it was weird, but they eventually grew out of it and appear to be perfectly normal for their ages.

I never saw girl interruped.. It is a documentary about this kid that talks about that kind of stuff all the time and then kills himself.

The whole thing with the "imaginary friend", the choking and bleeding is rather disturbing to come from a little kid.

    • Yeah. She's normal most of the time. I guess she just has a strange imagination. Other than this she is perfectly normal though, and very gentle with animals. Even bugs. Lol.

That's good, but just in case, you might want to watch her behavior for awhile.
