Is it normal for a 7th grader to have a boyfriend?

My cousin is in 7th grade, and she told me that she wants a boyfriend. I asked her why, and she said that everyone else does. I remember that most people were dating in 7th grade when I was younger, but I had never really though about it. I don't think they would do anything too... well, adult-like... In 7th grade, I remember people kissing at most. Is it normal for someone in 7th grade to have a boyfriend?

I still remember my 7th grade crush, it felt like real love. I didn't even know what sex was back then, but I always thought about kissing her, holding hands, and licking her face like ice cream.

Yeah, that seems normal to me. I remember in 6th grade (a generation ago) a lot of kids were "going steady".

It's normal for kids to date. I remember seeing couples together back in 5th grade.

When I was in the fifth grade there was this one girl who had a son who was in his second year of college.
She was very mature for her age.

I would say it's normal in this day n age. When I was in 7th grade I didn't think about boyfriends at all. I didn't think about romance until 16. Now a days I see kids as early as 10 wanting a boyfriend. That's why I said in todays generation.

I had my first gf in the first grade. We held hands. Kissed sometimes. Went everywhere together. She was my sidekick for two years till I switched schools. It's not abnormal. And doesn't mean they're doing anything "adult". Don't worry.

It's completely normal for someone her age to want to start dating and learning what it is all about . I would advise her with a relationship comes new responsibility . I would hope she is educated about sex , safe sex with condoms in case down the road she ends up participating . I must say though , wanting a relationship just because others are doing it or want one .. this is a horrible reason to date someone . If she sincerely likes a boy then she can date him and spend time with him but if she just picks a random boy out to fit in , that's completely silly .

Though I think "everyone else does" is a pretty terrible reason to enter a relationship, and I think you should tell her that, it is pretty normal for teens to date. There are also 7th graders (age 12 -13) that will engage in more adult activities. The average estimate for 13 yo's to have engaged in intercourse is only about 5%. That is small, but not insignificant. It is also fair to assume that a higher percentage has engaged in activities that fall in between kissing and intercourse. Just make sure she is educated, don't assume it is all harmless fun.
