Some people like to quote the Bible without ever having read it. Those who have taken the time to read the entire book, as I have, know that the god it speaks of considers ALL sin equal. He does not differentiate between them. To kill is the same as to lie. Adultery is no worse than stealing a loaf of bread. By picking one or two particular sins to single out only shows the ignorance of the so-called believer.
I have read the Bible in its entirety many times and I wouldn't agree with that statement. In Leviticus and Deuteronomy, Moses lays out several laws of God (commonly referred to as Mosaic Law), and they have different degrees of punishment, so I wouldn't call them equal in Gods eyes. If you are Christian, and continue into the New Testament, you could argue that Jesus changed this, by making the penance for all sin the request for forgiveness and redemption through him, or eternal hell fire, your choice. He also pretty much abolished Mosaic Law (this is made pretty clear to me in the Book of Galatians). This is why Christians do not have to eat Kosher, as required by Mosaic Law. In my opinion, this did not make all sins equal, just the way they were dealt with. But even if you were of that opinion, that would just be saying that at one point God felt there were different levels of sin, but then changed his mind.
What I have learned from the Bible is that the God described in it is not all knowing and all seeing, and he is not perfect or infallible. This is made plain by several passages. What I have also learned from the Bible is that God is not Love, he is a detestable tyrant, who murders the innocent at will, often just to prove something.
I do not believe that the God described in that book exists. But if he did, he would not be worthy of my love and worship, or anyone else's. How someone can love and worship a mass murder is beyond me. The God in the Bible is far worse than Hitler, and I wouldn't worship him either.
