As others have pointed out, receipts are usually on thermal paper these days, and it does fade kind of easily.
Make sure not to store any recipes you want to keep in a hot place like the car. I doubt it's a conspiracy or anything though, stores probably just prefer not having to mess with ink ribbons anymore.
You don't have to be 68 to see this happen. It doesn't even take years. Since most products one buys today are shit and don't last all that long, why would you need the receipt to last any longer than the item?
Welcome to the world of planned obsolescence.
Yeah it is common with thermal receipts - I would photocopy them onto normal paper.
I noticed that with a lot of Walmart receipts. I stated taking pictures of them so I'd have a backup just in case I needed to return something.
I run into this a lot with thermal printed receipts. Sometimes when I do my expense account months later (I'm a procrastinator) I can't even read them.
I've got in the habit of writing in the date and amount and job name with my ink pen on the receipt so I know what it was to my own satisfaction. That probably wouldn't be good enough for an exchange or return.
Never heard of this before...
Maybe the store put a bad quality thermal paper in their cash registers.
Maybe your receipt got some moisture on it.
