Is it normal for a station to refuse to play a song for no reason?

So I called the radio DJ and requested the song Gay Bar by Electric Six. The DJ said that's not a real song and I said it totally is. So he checked and said they actually did have it but weren't going to play it. He wouldn't even tell me why not he just hung up! What's up with that?

The DJ is an idiot. My erstwhile drinking friends occasionally used to head down to the gay village for a change and we'd sing it all the way there. If it's not a real song, how come we all knew it?

He may have a problem with gays or think that the station will get angry calls from any homophobes because the song is called "Gay Bar" It's still a dumb reason but it seems likely. Either that or he just doesn't like taking requests. Or hates the song.

Hate that song. Doesn't make it any less real.
