Is it normal for a senior in highschool to have a full length beard?

My friend has quite a beard.He is only 17. It is longer than the hair on his head. Sometimes it is all scraggly. Sometimes he combs it. I tell him to shave and he doesn't! He's protective of it, like it's an animal attatched to his face. Is this normal?

    hey I'm the one that the poster (Molly) is talking about. And let me tell you that she left out a few important details. My beard IS longer than my hair, because I have a buzz cut, my beard isn't even an inch long!!!!! and i can only grow it on the sides and under my chin, its not like i have a FULL FULL beard. Look at a picture of Elvis and that is basically the area in which I grow my beard plus under my chin and on my neck a bit. And what is wrong with you people? according to this website, its more normal to eat skin than have a beard

    Not normal. Sort of "macho" at his age but when he's 35-40 he will be insanely hairy lol

    Guy's are very proud over their facial hair, it's unique that he grew it out so early, but it's completely normal that he is protective of it. Does he have a girlfriend? I know I wouldn't like my boyfriend to have a beard like that. But I do like stubble. :D
