Is it normal for a person to repeat the same stories over and over?

Well, it seems as though my mom only has about 10-15 stories and she constantly retells them.

The stories are repeated almost word for word. For most of these stories, I was there!! She tells the story as if I wasn't there when it happened or like I forgot or something. She doesn't have a bad memory so that's not why she repeats herself. I don't get it, how can a person tell the same stories over and over to the same person??

This reminds me of the time a condom broke in her snatch...

You'd think they'd get it when you finish each of their stories for them.

I know right? My dad used to do this before he passed and everyone loves and misses him, but we still are kind of glad not to hear him.

this is actually my pet peeve lol i HATE this. I personally blame it on addiction. I read quite a few diff. sources that said talking about yourself releases a chemical *i forget which one* that people can get addicted to. So that is why I think people end up just talking about themselves running in circles. Never stops being annoying though.

My grandmother does that. I just pretend I haven't heard it a million times a year and just tune out. She told me the same story three times in one conversation, once.

My dad does this all the time when he's drunk. He can repeat the same story a dozen times.

I have this story about an IIN post where the person tells us about repeating the same stories.

''So, one day I logged onto IIN, and I checked out the 'Newest Posts' section...''

My dad does this. And every now and again he tells a new one. I love it when that happens. It does get annoying at times, but I love him for it. I love the story about his "stupid little sister" who didn't move and got clobered by the mud he threw in the air. He was a hyperactive child and was always causing mischief from what I understand.

It's obsessive-compulsive speech. Take an honest look at her, and you'll probably find she's like that with many things.

We have been telling and retelling stories throughout our history and prehistory. Sometimes we modify these stories in order to conform with changing times and / or cultures.

Your mother ['mother' is in fact one of the oldest words in Indo-European languages] seems to be a veracious person, telling these stories as they actually occurred. However, there are some who are mendacious, and these persons are often responsible for derivations from the truth, sometimes leading to misconceptions and blatant exaggeration.
It would be wonderful if your mother could experience some new adventures, so that she would have more interesting stories to tell.

Maybe she just doesn't have shit better to say. If she only has a dozen stories, then her life must be pretty dull.

Since you say it isn't a bad memory, maybe she has narcissistic tendencies. It sounds like she just likes to hear herself talk, and perhaps you're the only person who will listen.
