Is it normal for a passenger to choose the music?

I drive my friends around and they drive me but there is one girl who doesn't drive. I dont mind driving but she's beginning to irritate me by insisting on her choice of music in my car. I am not inflexible but we had a small tiff and her way of showing her annoyance was to change the station and then I would change it back and so it went on. It only happened once and it might seem childish but I felt for a split second like pulling over and telling her to get out. IIN?

Your car. Your music. If they don't like it, pull over and kick them out.

Next time they do it, say 'Don't you EVER touch a black man's radio!!', a la Chris Tucker in Rush Hour.

I mean, it sounds like she's doing it a lot, you were annoyed enough to come post about it.

I don't mind taking a few requests when I'm driving, but for the most part I want it to be my music. Helps me focus, especially if it's late.

No one touches my radio. You'll lose your grubby fingers if you touch it.

I usually take the faceplate off and put it in my bag until I drop them off.

Next time she touches your stereo, stomp on the brakes hard so she hits her head on the windscreen and breaks her nose.

Tell her if she doesn't want to hear your music put a pair of earbuds on and listen to her own music or GTFO of the car and take a cab .

Tell her that if she insists on listening to her music in your car, you won't drive her anywhere anymore. She sounds really rude.

I don't play the radio in the car. CD's only, and passenger can choose between what I own or no music.

  • My rule of thumb has always been its the passengers job to control the radio but mostly to change the station whenever the commercials start. But your friend is rude, even when I drive I make sure my music is somewhat tolerable to my passengers

  • yeah, even if it's not your car -we had a rule in my band, the one who's driving is the one who chooses the music.

next time you should warn her and if she's still insisting, just ask her to walk.

It's YOUR car. YOU'RE the one who gets to choose what the music is. Are you driving her/them for free? Because if you are, I don't know how dare you let someone else who isn't doing anything for you boss you in your own car.

Wow. I've driven friends around/carpooled plenty of times and I've never once had one of them change my radio, nor have I changed theirs, that's just plain bad manners. I know the newer generations (mine included) are considered by some elders to be lacking in old fashioned graces but there are just some things nobody should do and one of them is messing with the radio when you're not even the one driving!

It's the passenger's job to make the driver as comfortable as possible

I always let my friends choose music, unless its something that I ABSOLUTELY cannot stand. Other than that, I'm pretty tolerant towards others tastes in music and who the hell cares who touches the radio? I think it's pretty childish to be so sensitive towards other people touching your radio. It's the same thing as telling someone "but that's myyyyy radioo" in the most obnoxious whiny voice ever. It's just annoying either way you think of it.
