Is it normal for a parent to not want you to move out

First, a little background history, when my mom got pregnant with me, she kept it from my dad until i was 13.that same year i came out to my family and my mom made go live with him.turns out he is the most open minded tolerant person i have ever met.anyway, fast forward 7 years and im planning on moving out(i actually planned to move out @ 17 when i started working, but he said there was no rush, so i stayed.anyway,i'm about to turn 20, so i started to look for a place of my own.when my dad found out that me and a couple of friends planned to share a place in the city he said he was fine with it,but asked me to consider staying for another year or so.I dont get it, dont parents want their kids gone as soon as possible?LOL

Your Dad unknowingly missed out on 65% of your life, of course it's normal for him to want you to stay longer......

He probably enjoys your company and knowing he has a kid. Or maybe he thinks if you leave, you won't want to be in his life anymore. He might be afraid to lose you. At least it means he cares. :)

Your dad just loves you. You should move out but visit often. It will be hard, visit often or call him a couple times a week. Good luck!

Oh no, it's normal but if the parent loves the child soooo much, it's hard to let em go.

It is normal, but also stupid on the part of parents.
