Is it normal for a man to experience orgasm in the lower belly/navel?

For several years, I've practiced this when, er, on my own. Just before orgasm, I've pressed down using my fingers on area below belly button - sometimes very hard, sometimes just a tickle. The result is a deep orgasm throughout that entire area as well as the penis. What causes this and am I harming something?
