Is it normal for a man to come out this late in life?

I am now 59 years old and have been coming out over the course of a year. I don't find many men that have done this and feel somewhat isolated. I also have found that many gay men don't want to get involved with a man that has been in relationships with women and also men who are older

I don't think there's anything wrong with it. It wouldn't have been easy accepting it and coming out 40 or so years ago. Through my work I meet quite a few men (and women) older than you in their 70's, 80's, 90's who've never came out at all because of the way things were. It sounds like a gay support group might help you though, where you will get to meet a range of gay people young and old.

Thank-your for your words of encouragement and support. I will look up what groups I could join to feel more comfortable in the place I am in right now. It's good to know I am not alone and there are many men in my situation.

I don't see this as normal but I'd like to tell you that you're not alone.

Whether it be sexuality, or whether or not we are happy with our spouse, our careers or our lives, for many it may take many years to come to terms with who WE are. This isn't always easy to do as who we REALLY are may come into conflict with who our families want us to be, who we are expected to be, who society says we should be, etc.

People go through the same struggles as you, doesn't always have to do with sexuality but I am happy that you finally came to terms with who you are as a person. There are people that die before they ever get the chance and I think you should at least be happy that you are not one of them and maybe go online and try to network with older gay males as well. They are out there!
