Is it normal for a man to be a geography teacher in middle school?

I recently took up a teaching position for Grade5 Geography. But all other teachers in this school are women. So I wonder if this is a normal career for a man. Or is it too effeminate?

  • Yes, some teachers are male. Nothing too strange about that.

And since when is grade 5 considered "middle school"?

    • I'm not from the US. In Queensland, Grades 5 to 8 are considered middle school.

There is no middle school in Queensland. I don't know what you're talking about. There's primary school, then high school.

I've heard that teaching used to be a male-dominated profession, but now it is becoming a female-dominated one.

Why wouldn't it be normal? Is this school for females only?

My geography, social studies, science teachers and math teachers were usually men.
