Is it normal for a guy to walk way ahead of his girl?

This guy that I really liked was always trying to walk ahead of me everytime we went out and if I had something small to do he wouldn't really wait for me. I've actually spoken to his ex and she said that he would always always walk in front of her but at a somewhat far distance. And that even his daughter would ask the girlfriend to take her to school because the dad (the guy that I liked) would walk so far in front of her and not wait for her to keep up. I'm also friends with one of his good friends and he even thinks its weird. It just seems like such an asshole thing to do but so weird. I don't get it. But when we were just friends he didn't do that, we would walk side by side. I thought, if he ever walked that far in front of me I would cut the corner and ditch his ass but now its over anyway. But still I'm curious to know why he does that and it's not just a few feet in front, its kind of a far distance. I would think that he would be embarrassed to walk like that. I told him thats what male animals do with females and he got defensive and said he's not an animal.

It's true that some people naturally walk faster than others, but that's no excuse for not being aware of whether the other people with you are still there.

That said, if this is his biggest fault I wouldn't let it get to you.

Thats not normal. He should be walking next to you. Seems like hes either tryong to show dominance of isnt wanting people to think hes with you.

I thought about that too. But I don't think that's it. I think it has something to do with dominance.

Which is still something that one shouldnt have to deal with. Relationships are suppose to be partnerships, not one person being dominant. Unless the couple has a fetish for that sort of thing.

Thanks for your input. He walks about 20, 25 feet in front of whichever girls he's with so i can't step on his heels. Like I said we didn't last very long, now I miss him as my friend. But it blows my mind to think that he thinks he is going to find a good woman who will put up with that shit. actually I think he got back with his ex.

I was in a relationship with a man who would do that. For him it was because he had an annoying competitive side and a strong desire to be first at everything. Reminding him he was doing it had only a temporary effect, within minutes he's be back at it again. So, in retaliation, I would step on the backs of his shoes while he was walking.

I agree with some of the comments already made, that it has something to do with dominance and it's rude.

ask him if they shoved the dick way too far in this time that his butt hurts & he walks so fast he's trying to mask the pain

I know! When I told him about it, he was like, "Oh I just get distracted" But then he also looked at me like I'm a weirdo and what an odd request it is for mt to want him to walk with me. But distracted by what??? Even if you were distracted that wouldn't make you walk fast.

This could be the case, being distracted, I am often told I need to "slow down" and stop "walking ahead", by friends and family.

I am either distracted or unaware that I am walking fast/far ahead in the first place. I do exactly what you posted, but it was never intentional or to show dominance over everyone I walk with. He was probably actually distracted or preoccupied with something. If you read into anything enough, you will find "caveman" theory behind it.

Animals are dominated by an alpha (male) that leads.

        That's not very accurate.

I don't know, that's just what it reminds me of.

  • Maybe you're walking too slow. I've had people complain about me doing this too and it's because they aren't keeping up.

it wasn't a problem when we were just friends. And even if I was walking too slow shouldn't he slow down his pace to walk with me. Especially his own 10 year old daughter??

He could have this as a habit or maybe he just walks fast, but the fact that he ends up leaving his own daughter behind is inexcusable.

He should at least be aware of this problem, unless he spaces out when walking I guess. I still don't find it as a good reason, though.

Maybe he's just really tall and it's natural for him to walk fast because his long legs are on autopilot.
