Is it normal for a guy to cover his face?

When I was younger (around 13 yrs old) i had a lot of facial hair and i covered my mouth with my hands a lot, my friends said it was gay, but i'm a really self conscious person.

    You kind of answered your own question.
    It's normal if you're self conscience about something.
    A lot of people do it when it comes to smiling if they have bad teeth.
    I never heard anyone doing it because of facial hair though.
    Was it because of your facial hair that you covered your face?
    If it was..why didn't you just shave it off?
