And to actually want to become a designer?
Thats awesome! You should do that....follow your dreams!!!! Who cares if its normal or not.
Yep, it's normal. You don't have to be a woman to want to pursue it as a career.
I think it would be fantastic for a straight (I'm assuming, from the question?) guy to get into that. I have always been mystified why women would want to be dressed by men who have no interest in them. How could a guy who doesn't find women attractive be a good judge of what makes a woman look attractive?
I can dress a woman and im not into them in that way...I would assume it would come down to knowing design, body types, and what beauty is.
I watched one project runway show where they had a straight guy...he didnt win but I really liked some of his stuff.
Honestly, when I used to watch things like the Emmys, etc, I always found the "designer" dresses the women wore totally unflattering and oft times downright ridiculously humorous. I'm obviously way, way in the minority on this.
I think a lot of the clothing on a runway is supposed to be artistic.
I have also seen some really ugly stuff on shows...to the point were im sure if I learned how to use a sewing machine I could do a better job lol.
But I also think it needs to be looked at as that persons artistic expression.
But thats where the artistic expression ends for me. The designer might be an artist so to speak but the way the fashion industry and fashionistas jump on everything and turn it into trends, is the opposite of art - thats copying and trying to blend in and be accepted, it's not being brave and being an individual. But that's not to say I don't like the designers and their designs. I just don't like how things go in and out of fashion.
A lot of the runway stuff isn't for the masses ...you can and should also be able to design for them...but the runway stuff is usually higher end things you actually couldn't wear comfertably in day to day life.
all art if you are trying to sell it is trying to see what people are into and design things they like...from directing movies...writing novels... designing logos...comic books...clothing.
if you dont care about making a lot of money then you dont have to pay attention to trends...
however you may creat something that a lot of people love and creat your own trend this way. its all a gamble really.
I dont think you're in the minority on this. And I've heard a theory that because a lot of men involved in the fashion design are gay (but not all of course), they are projecting the male form onto women and so boyish looking women look more attractive to them and maybe the clothes they are designing are with this boyish projection in mind. I don't know, but I can't understand what is important about fashion or what it's even about.
I agree with you. I don't find it funny, though.. I just find it kinda blah. I do like the classy look, though. Like when a woman wears a simple, sleek red dress with no straps or something and red lipstick, etc.
