My best friend used to say this to me about her ex, as we seemed to be like peas in a pod: same sense of humour, shockingly sarcastic, similar interests etc...
I don't think she liked it to be honest; probably unnerved her a bit, but that's just her suspicious nature.
Don't worry about it, if anything they must like certain qualities you have, since they're happy with a significant other who shares them! :)
Maybe he just wants you to know that you resemble someone he loves. I mean that he probably cares about you the same way he cares about his partner.
It depends on the cause for the comparison. Comparing things like certain personality qualities or a few physical similarities it's fine. But, if it's like "Your lips are so sexy, just like my partner's" then your friend has a problem.
