Is it normal for a colleague to call everyone names?

We have a colleague who calls everyone things like "gorg" and "darl" -- I find it irritating, but is it normal?

i think the worst part of that is that they felt the need to shorten the words. i hate when ppl do that. annoying OBVS

Gorg as in "gorgon" or "gorgeous"?
    Darl as in "darling"?

How odd. I don't like it when people make up silly abbreviations for things that don't even need to be abbreviated. It could be worse, though. She could speak aloud in text speak like; OMG, RODLIKE (oh you, autocorrect!), and some other stuff...

We all have nicknames at work. Sometimes the nickname is based on the persons' personality or how he/she works. One guy I work with is nicknamed Twinkletoes.
