Is it normal for a christian to like paegan music so much?

Im christian, which is shocking to some people. My political aligences and views on life aperently dont always match that of a christian. I love heavy metal, but more specificaly I love paegan bands. I will defend my religion to the death, ive even been called a fanatic. And I check to make sure that the band isnt anti-christian. My concern is that listening to paegan music is contradictory to my belifes. Is it normal for me as a christian to love paegan music? I will apreciate any feedback.

I'm Christian, and I like Celtic music, which is often pagan, lyric-wise. I justify it by liking the music.

For example, the song "Lord of the Dance". As I understand it, the song is literally about the Pagan god of dancing. I don't believe in a dance god. I worship no god other than that of Christianity. Since I don't follow the beliefs portrayed in the lyrics, it's not un-Christian for me to listen to it for the entertainment value of upbeat music.

If you translate "O Fortuna", it's basically just medieval emo poetry in Latin. The music is still epic, but the lyrics suck.

    Same concept.

Trust me on this, totally normal. I'm a complete Jesus freak to the end. My views don't always line up with other Bible thumpers, but I take the Bible as it is and don't add anything on to it. I follow the good book, but I hate most Christian music. I'm a musician so I want to listen to GOOD music. If you're super concerned about it though and want to switch to all Christian music all the time. There are a few decent bands (in my personal opinion). You may enjoy Skillet, R.E.D., and possibly Hawk Nelson. I also like some stuff by Tenth Ave North. :]. Hope that helped.

I'm the opposite. I absolutely love unaccompanied singing – I can hear it from 100 yards away -- & a lot of that seems to be Christian. At one time music with Christian themes in was shocking. I heard these

I thought they were some dark, evil chant cos of how they were done, & when I realised they were Christian songs I couldn't believe it. By the time I realised I loved them both so much I didn't care!

    Yes it is normal.
    Is it okay?
Well, to be honest, I think so. I also do not think it is a bad thing to understand Paganism.
A lot of names, mythology, and therefore classical references, literary references and so forth are made from Pagan beliefs, myths etc.
Many rituals borrowed by Christianity are from Pagans.
The names of the days of the week came from days that the Pagans arranged to worship their gods and goddesses.
If you ask me, to know something about Pagans is to know a little more about Christianity.

You sound like, to me, that you believe in God quite firmly. Learning about other religions' perceptions of God or their gods and goddesses should not shake your belief, in fact, it would seem to me that it might help you appreciate and understand things in your religion a bit more. I wouldn't fret about it, personally.

Learning is the path to wisdom and wisdom is the path to understanding God.

You might have social anxiety. If Christianity is your only tie to other people, it isn't healthy. You live your life for yourself and not for others.

Christianity isnt my only tie to people, and that wasnt the question. Im wondering if its normal for someone who is a non paegan to be so drawn to paegan culture.

christianity copied a bunch of ideas and stories from paganism, so its probably ok. however, religious music is for faggots

Its nothing to do with my god, its to do with my choice. I just dont want to do anything that would conflict my only real tie to people. I listen to christian music as well as paegan music, its nothing to do with what god says.

Why do you feel the need to check if they are anti-christian? Are you scared God wont approve of your music choice? Honestly if there is a god I'm sure he could give a fuck less about what you listen to on your free time.

But that's just an atheist's view..
