Is it normal for a 3 year old to stay up until 11:30 pm?

My husband lets our 3 year old stay up until 11:30pm. I know myself this is unhealthy and try explaining it to him but he says: "The kid knows when he needs to sleep. He woke up early what does that tell you.  Nobody is right.  No doctor knows everything or scientists. It's all speculation and nothing is ever proven.  You hear about one study and then you hear hear about another telling you it's bad.  Your caught up in all this shit you read.  You are sweating the small stuff like usual"
Our son usually wakes up with me at 7:00 when I get up for work, to me 7-8 hours is not enough sleep for him and it shows in his irritability during the day. Since when does a 3 year old decide when he goes to bed??
I'll leave it at that.

How can you say nothing is ever proven? That's why scientists do studies, so that things like this can be proven to be bad. I think he is being set up to have bad sleeping habits.

I don't think it's normal. Kids need much more sleep than adults. You need to have a serious talk with your husband.

Children grow at a pretty fast rate and need more sleep than adults. So no it's not normal. Your son should be in bed a lot earlier.

I suppose it depends on the kid. When I was young I was told that I slept allot, but as I got older I wouldn't sleep soundly anymore. My parents were a tad too strict with my sleep times, I don't think I was allowed to sleep that late until I was 13 or 14. Your sons missing sleep hours should be made up as much as possible, so let him have daytime naps.

You should be putting your 3 year old to bed way, way earlier than that. Your husband sounds like an ass, to be honest.

It depends on the kid. There was no point getting me to bed early because I wasn't going to sleep but, yeah, for an average kid, parents should be setting the bedtimes.
