Is it normal for a 6 year old to have horrible nightmares

when i was about five years old my brother would scare me a lot and torture me. so when i was about seven or something i couldn't even close my eyes without seeing someone in my family assassinated. when i got older i always said it was because of me sneaking into my brothers room while he was watching a rated R movie but now i'm not so sure.

I'm slightly confused. It's almost like you hoped around in subject matter...

I think the nightmares were caused from the abuse. As far as I can see, it's nothing to do with R rated films.

How are you now and how is your brother? Have you confronted him about the abuse? Have you ever told someone like a therapist or a close friend? I don't know how he abused you, but if he hasn't changed then there's the chance that he's abusing someone else. As I aforementioned, you need to tell someone about this.

no you got it all wrong i currently don't live with my brother in fact i haven't seen him in like 5 years, what I'm trying to ask is if its normal for a six year old to experience that and i think the word "abuse" is a little too much. but thanks for commenting i really appreciate it :3

Wow - this is like my own twin boys' experiences!

They're five, and were horrified learning about Roman centurians at school - until we removed them from the class, they would wake up and scream, sobbing into my husband, John's, shoulder.
Apparently they saw the Romans every time they tried to lay their little heads to sleep.

At that age, kids are really sensitive and take everything incredibly seriously - they believe anything and don't exactly know the strength of their own big minds.

If this is bothering you, perhaps you could chat with someone you trust?

I hope I gave good insight!

Good luck, and feel free to ask any questions!

    xx

Children have nightmares, its normal as long as they didn't follow you into adulthood and affect your adult life.

Yes, every child has a hyperactive imagination commonly leading to scary dreams/nightmares.
