Is it normal for a 7 month old baby to do this?

I work at a day care and watch kids as old as 13 to infants as young as 3 months old. After working at the same daycare during my summer break for 3 years I have got to know each kids personality very well. Recently, I've noticed that one of the babies- a 7 month old loves to either be held standing, laying with his head hanging off anything while on his back, or held upside down. If I don't hold him in any of these positions he is extremely fussy and cries until I put him upside down or stand him up. Is this normal? Should I keep letting him lay and be held in this way?

Damn, I would like to help but I don't know jack shit about babies.

I know this was a useless comment and I am ashamed of myself.

I'm a childcare worker, done the study and have 9yrs experience as a nanny. That's what I'm basing my answer on.

Kids love that sort of thing. I wouldn't hold a kid upside down for long, definitely not long with a baby either. Quick dips when you're singing a song but not holding upside down for a prolonged period. Make sure his neck is supported when he's upside down etc (yes his neck is strong enough to support itself but I always support kids heads when I'm flipping them round and playing, better to be safe). Standing up is probably best position. Good for when he'll be ready to walk.

You've probably noticed kids in daycare want as much one on one attention as they can get. This little guy is probably just needing a bit more. Daycare's a hard environment for the littlies. And the people who work with them. I couldn't go back to working with 10 kids under 2 with only two carers, all crying cos they want cuddles. It's fucking hard work and breaks my heart not being able to give enough.

Not a good idea for small children. Something could go wrong with his intestines. I know it's weird but it's true. It will kind of get misplaced or turn upside down or smthin. The symptoms are stomach discomforts/ stomach ache and sometime there's no signs of it at all.

It can be, but I have also heard that it can also be an early sign of autism. Look up signs of autism in babies and see if he/she fits any of the criteria.
