Is it normal for 23 yr olds to date girls 5 yrs younger?

I'm 18, and I've been seeing this guy a few weeks before I became legal. He's 23 and since I'm an "adult", I know its perfectly legal. But...what reasons would a 23-year-old man be seeing someone my age? Any suggestions?

My friends and family members find the age difference absurd, but I think its fine. We're both in college. :/ Not like I'm still in HS.

    I would not personally go out with an 18 year old because I would feel like I was taking advantage of her. My best guess is that he is taking advantage of your young age seeing that he was willing to see you when you were technically a minor. Seems fishy to me. I hope you guys do not end up on the steve wilkos show.

    The calculation for acceptable dating is:

    1/2 your age + 7

    The math:
    for you 18/2 + 7 = 16 and up

    for him 23/2 + 7 = 18.5 and up.

    Save some face and start telling people you're 19 until your next birthday...

    Perfectly normal. If you like him and he has good friends that you enjoy, no problem. I am five years older than my wife, and we are perfect together.

    For me 5 years difference is not normal until you are over 30. For people under 20, 2 years difference is already a lot.

    Which straight guy would not feel good about himself when a young girl is willing to see them? I don't know enough details to say whether it is normal for this 23 year old to date you or not. However, because you're a girl, you need to protect yourself. It's better not to appear you fancy him a lot before he tells you he likes you. Also, if he likes you, he wouldn't be afraid to introduce you to his social circle. If you're not happy with the way or the reason he approaches you, then stop seeing him.

    I have always been dating men/boys 5-10 years older than me (I'm 20, my boyfriend is 27) and have never really had any problems with any age gap, even though I am not the most mature person in the world.
    23 is perfectly acceptable, you're both young adults and in college. Also, girls tend to be a bit more mature than boys, so your mental age might not be so far apart :)

    It would be weird if you were 16 and 21 but I think, seeing as you're an adult, there's nothing strange about someone in their early twenties finding you attractive.
