Even some infants masturbate, but that's just about doing something that feels good. Very young children shouldn't be able to make the connection between what it feels good to do themselves, and the possibility of another person being involved in that.

I'm sure that understanding comes to kids at different ages, but seven seems pretty young to me, and I think Nickvey makes a valid point about memories possibly being blocked.

Leaving aside the question of how you knew about sex when you were seven, I think still being upset about the thoughts you then had and what you did to yourself is being very hard on yourself.

Almost everyone can remember doing inappropriate, weird or just totally fucked-up things when they were very young. Anyone who believes they behaved and thought like a miniature adult when they were a child is deluding themselves. Seven year-old kids are very much a work in progress, and their understanding of the world and themselves is extremely limited. That's one of the reasons the law says seven year-old kids aren't able to consent to sex.
